Sarin Gas

There are some early reports that the nerve gas sarin was used on protesters in Egypt.

Sarin became “known” when it was used during a domestic terrorist attack in Tokyo in 1995 which killed 13 people and hurt many more.

This one was used in Tahrir December 16, after authorities had forbidden use of tear gas on protesters. Photo by @occupyindianapo

Though the marking is abit unclear do to he small size of  the photo. One can see the logo it is Combined Tactical systems.

Probably this one. (Though, not 100% confirmed!)

Food poisoning ID – Egypt – OccupyCabinet

Help identify the cause of the food poisoning at #OccupyCabinet, Egypt December 14th 2011. Photo by Abdel Rahman Hussein

Information given so far.

  • Sick almost immediately/ after a few hours / after five hours
  • Casues nausea
  • Probably from sandwiches (hawawshi) brought there by an unknown woman.
  • Sandwiches were reported to contain lamb meat

Now I have narowed it down to two possible suspects (given it in fact is food poisoning) based on incubation time(time from eating til you get sick).

Bacillus Cereus (incubation time 1-6 hours)

Symptoms: nausea, throwing up

Staphylococcus Aureus (incubation time 1-8 hours)

Symptoms: nausea, stomach pain, throwing up, diarrhea, fever.

* Heavy metal – Cadmium (incubation time: 1 – 60 minutes)

Symptoms: nausea, stomach pain, throwing up, diarrhea.

This type we have definitely seen before.

Produced by Combined Tactical Systems, Inc – related to many of the other tear gas used by SCAF during the early Arabic winter.

518E RIOT CS – Egypt – Tah17

Looks like a very familiar case.

If past experiences is anything to go by (review the Tah9 case), this is produced by Federal laboratories. And one can read the labeling “518E RIOT CS”

MK II 570 CS – Egypt – Tah16

This canister is clearly marked “MK II 570 CS”, one can also read that its produced by “Federal laboratories”

As this is outdated by far, it will be diffiult to find any online description of this product.

Though we will try anyway.


This might be the same product as this one – 37mm short-range spede-heat

In which case, there is a – MSDS *Though keep in mind that the canister used is very outdated.
